Is Mortal Shell II crashing for everyone?

No. Crashes are reported in the community megathread opened at global release, but they are not universal. The megathread also covers controller issues, missing rewards, quest softlocks and combat bugs, so if you are hitting problems you are not alone — and most have a reported workaround.

Work through the checklist below in order. It starts with the fixes that cost nothing.

Step 1: The four safe fixes

Clear the NVIDIA shader cache. This is the single most-cited fix in the community thread for GPU-related crashes on NVIDIA hardware. Clear it through NVIDIA Control Panel or by deleting the cache directory, then relaunch.

Verify game files. In Steam: right-click Mortal Shell II → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. This catches corrupted downloads, which are common right after a patch.

Update your GPU drivers. Both NVIDIA and AMD shipped driver updates around the launch window. Do a clean install if you have not updated in a while.

Remove third-party overlays. Discord overlay, Steam overlay, MSI Afterburner / RTSS, GeForce Experience in-game overlay and ReShade injection tools are all known to destabilise Unreal Engine titles. Disable them one at a time rather than all at once so you learn which one was the cause.

Step 2: Camera spinning

Symptom: the camera begins rotating on its own and will not stop.

Reported fix: exit to the main menu and reload your save. Players describe this as the only reliable solution — there is no in-menu setting that stops it once it starts.

Prevention: reviews note that the problem is tied to camera mode. Immersion mode — the tighter field of view, closer shoulder angle — behaves unpredictably. Switching to action mode usually resolves it, at the cost of the more cinematic framing.

Step 3: Lock-on drift and missing attacks

Symptom: when locked on, your attacks rotate clockwise around the target instead of hitting it. Normal attacks, ripostes and abilities all miss.

Reported fix: switch from immersion mode to action mode. If that does not clear it, the same main-menu reload used for the camera spin applies.

This one is worth taking seriously: ripostes are your biggest damage window, and a riposte that whiffs usually means taking a full boss combo in return.

Step 4: Controller problems

Controller issues are one of the categories in the community megathread, which confirms they exist and that they affect both console and PC players using a pad.

Try, in order: disable Steam Input for the game, use a wired connection instead of Bluetooth, close any third-party controller mapping software, and test with a different controller profile. Specific fixes beyond this are Unbestätigt.

Step 5: Missing rewards and quest softlocks

These are the two most damaging categories in the bug list, because they can silently block achievements and progression.

• Missing rewards — if a dungeon chest or boss drop does not appear, check the megathread before assuming you misplayed. Re-running the content after a main-menu reload resolves it for some players.
• Quest softlocks — NPC questlines, including the traders near the Chapel, can stall. There is no in-game way to reset a quest, so a manual save backup is the only real protection.

Step 6: When nothing works

If you have worked through the list and the game still crashes:

1. Check the official Discord and the community subreddit for a megathread update — a fix may already be known and in patching.
2. Report the crash with your hardware specs, driver version and the exact circumstances. Reports without specs are not actionable.
3. Remember that Balance Patch 1 has already shipped covering economy, bosses and enemies, weapons and Tarstones, with more patching expected. Several of these problems were present in review builds and were expected to be targeted.

Confirmed by review coverage: camera spinning, lock-on drift, immersion-mode instability, and a day-one patch expectation targeting technical issues present in pre-release builds.
